Perimenopause and Menopause

Hypnotherapy for Perimenopause and Menopause in Burton on Trent

Feeling more like yourself through the changes

Have you found yourself feeling more anxious, irritable or overwhelmed than usual? Perhaps your sleep has changed, your memory feels less reliable, or you simply don’t feel quite like yourself.

You might be juggling work, family, relationships and all the other things life throws at you, while wondering why everything suddenly feels harder than it used to.

Perimenopause and menopause can bring a whole range of physical, emotional and mental changes. And while they’re natural stages of life, that doesn’t mean they’re always easy to navigate.

The good news is that there are ways to support yourself through this transition, helping you feel calmer, more confident and more in control.

Understanding perimenopause and menopause

Perimenopause is the transitional stage leading up to menopause, when hormone levels begin to fluctuate and change. It often starts during your 40s, although it can begin earlier, and may last for several years.

Menopause is reached when you’ve gone 12 consecutive months without a period, provided there isn’t another reason for your periods to have stopped.

Changing levels of oestrogen and progesterone affect more than just your menstrual cycle. They can influence sleep, mood, concentration and how you respond to stress. The experience is different for every woman, and there is no single way to go through it.

Common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause

You might recognise some of these:

  • Hot flushes and night sweats that interrupt your day or leave you struggling to sleep.
  • Anxiety and irritability, perhaps feeling on edge or worrying about things that wouldn’t normally bother you.
  • Changes in mood, including feeling tearful, low or unlike your usual self.
  • Sleep problems, such as finding it difficult to fall asleep, waking during the night or feeling exhausted the next day.
  • Brain fog, including forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating or struggling to find the right words.
  • Fatigue, even when you feel you’ve had enough rest.
  • Changes in weight and body shape, including weight gain around your middle.
  • Joint and muscle aches, stiffness and unexplained discomfort.

You may experience several of these symptoms, just one or two, or find that they change over time.

And if you’re finding things harder than you expected, please know this: you’re not failing to cope. Your body and brain are adapting to change, and you deserve support while that happens.

How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help

I take a particular interest in the brain and how it responds to stress, change and uncertainty. Understanding a little more about what’s happening can help you make sense of how you’re feeling, rather than wondering why you don’t seem to be yourself.

When we’re under pressure, our brains can become more focused on potential problems. We may find ourselves overthinking, worrying about the future or becoming more self-critical. When sleep is disrupted and life is already demanding, it can feel as though there’s very little left in the tank.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines supportive conversation with relaxation and hypnosis. Rather than spending all our time looking back at what’s gone wrong, we’ll explore what you would like to feel differently and identify small, realistic steps to help you move forward.

Our sessions are tailored to you and what matters in your life. There is no expectation that you should feel a certain way or have everything figured out.

Together, we can work on:

  • Calming anxiety and stress, so that everyday challenges feel more manageable.
  • Improving confidence and self-esteem, particularly if you’ve started doubting yourself or feel less capable than you used to.
  • Developing a more helpful relationship with your thoughts, reducing the time spent caught up in worry and self-criticism.
  • Supporting better sleep and relaxation, helping you develop ways to unwind and manage the impact of disrupted nights.
  • Building emotional resilience, so that changes in mood feel less overwhelming and you have practical strategies to draw on.
  • Making space for yourself, recognising your own needs and deciding what you want this next stage of life to look like.

Hypnosis provides an opportunity to experience deep relaxation and focus on positive, helpful suggestions. This can support a calmer response to stress and help you practise new ways of thinking and responding.

Although hypnotherapy doesn’t change your hormone levels or replace medical treatment, it can be a valuable part of looking after your emotional wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely overwhelmed before asking for help.

This stage of life can be different

Menopause can sometimes leave you feeling as though you’ve lost a little of the person you used to be. Perhaps your confidence has taken a knock, your patience feels shorter or you’re struggling to keep all the plates spinning.

But this stage of life doesn’t have to be about simply putting up with things or pushing through.

It can be an opportunity to understand yourself a little better, reconnect with what matters to you and find ways to feel more comfortable in yourself again.

My aim is to help you feel clearer, calmer and better equipped to navigate whatever this stage brings, in a way that works for you.

You don’t need to have all the answers before we begin. We can start with where you are now.
